EXCALION
EMOTIONS
Scarlet Records
Release: September 27, 2019
‘’Emotions’’ is the title of Excalion’s new album. Following up the highly acclaimed ‘’Dream Alive’’, this new masterpiece from the Finnish power force takes you on a journey through hate and trust, sorrow and joy. ‘’Emotions’’ drives Excalion to new extremes in their music. Every song tells its own story, reflecting a singular emotion through the means of vibrant, melodic, and even aggressive metal.
This group of talented and experienced musicians gathered to play powerful metal songs with great melodies, catchy choruses and some folk nuances that give them a very distinctive feel.
Simone Mularoni (DGM) handled the mixing and mastering duties at Domination Studio (Michael Romeo, Turilli/Lione Rhapsody). The outstanding artwork was created by Poland’s own metal art genius Piotr Szafraniec, whereas the breath-taking pictures were taken by Juhamatti Vahdersalo.
Excalion joined forces yet again with Scarlet Records to bring you -possibly- the most epic melodic metal album of the year!
Tracklist:
Trust
Sunshine Path
Lost Control
Solitude
Nightmariner
The Golden Horde
I Left My Heart At Home
The Mercy Racers
Callsigns
Deep Water (bonus track)
‘’Trust’’ is a very strong opener for this new album. I’m loving the small electronic/synth hints and influences! I’m more than hapy to hear them make a return on ‘’Sunshine Path’’. The melody sounds like a nineties trance song, but that is exactly what makes it so much fun. ‘’Lost Control’’ sounds very power metal, an element that could not miss on this album. ‘’Solitude’’ is a bit too slow for me personally, but it is a beautiful track. ‘’Nightmariner’’ is the one that surprised me. It brings back the awesome synths, but more importantly: it tells a story. I love it when bands turn their songs into musical storytelling. Definitely a new favourite here! It is impossible to dislike a track on this album, but there are tracks that I like a bit less than others such as ‘’The Golden Horde’’, ‘’I Left My Heart At Home’’ and ‘’Solitude’’.
Going back to the album, ‘’The Mercy Racers’’, ‘’Callsigns’’ and ‘’Deep Water (bonus track)’’ are all three awesome tracks, where from ‘’Callsigns’’ the one that I like best. Then again, I’m easy to buy over with such good elements.
‘’Emotions’’ is a great fifth album, and I hope Excalion stays around for way more. Finnish power metal at its best!
